The Kalangos Foundation volunteer medical team, led by Prof. Dr. Afksendiyos Kalangos, performs surgery on children with heart disease in low- and middle-income countries who do not have access to adequate local health services. Since its founding in 2000, the Kalangos Foundation has treated more than 17,000
children in 25 developing countries and trained more than 100 of these countries’ health professionals in cardiac surgery.
The Kalangos Foundation performs surgeries that are rarely or never performed in the world at the Koç University Hospital in Istanbul and the Iaso Children's Hospital in Athens. It also works with specialist human heart centers in Kiev and China. It also continues to coordinate missions in Cameroon, Mauritius, Morocco, Vietnam, India and Nigeria.
